It’s name is Marilyn (who calls a car Marilyn?) and it was once a HQ Holden … but that was long ago.

These days Marilyn still claims to be a HQ Holden but maybe she’s under-estimating herself. See for yourself … sadly they don’t start her up in this video.

Driving in the sand on Fraser Island is not that hard … unless of course you’re a backpacker who hasn’t bothered to listen to the advice you’ve been given when you hired the vehicle and hasn’t bothered to notice what other drivers are doing and the line they’re taking to get through the thick sand.

The year is 1905 or 1906 and we’re going for a ride on a cable car in San Francisco.

You’ll note that back then American cars were driven on the right-hand side and people who wanted to catch a tram or cable car stood in the middle of the road. There were horses, bike riders, pedestrians and what appears to be almost total chaos.

It’s about seven minutes long and after watching it I’m glad I wasn’t a tram or cable car driver back in those days.

Touring Car Racing

In some ways the V8 Supercar series here in Australia hasn’t done any favours for car racing fans. Sure there’s a lot of action and a lot of drama that we get to see but we miss out on the touring car action that we used to see and some of that was just as exciting … if not more so … than what we see in the V8s.

Just have a look at some of the passing moves in this video from one of the rounds in the 1995 British Touring Car Championships and you’ll see just how exciting other forms of motor racing can be.

When you make SUVs that you say are unbreakable then you’ve got prove it … this was just some of the rough terrain we got to drive over in the new Toyota Landcruiser Prado when they released it here in Australia.

The four-wheel drive course was brutal … the fire trails on the back of Mt Canobolas were less so.

The vehicle is a two-door coupe with gull-wing doors and if you’ve ever wondered how you would get out of a rollover if the car had these type of doors then Mercedes has the answer … doors that pop open and can then be pulled off the car.
